Customers say
Customers like the ease of installation of the lock. They mention it’s easy to simply text a customized code out and is convenient for entry when the phone app isn’t handy. However, some customers have reported that the battery life is not good. Opinions are mixed on functionality, build quality, value for money, and keypad functionality.

Love it
first unit I got from Amazon warehouse deals was non functional, perhaps it was the reason someone had returned it, no backlight or bluetooth signals detected from it even after changing the batteries. I did however notice what seemed to be after damage on the circuit board inside the unit. So just be aware that if you buy one from Amazon warehouse to make sure it works, and that it’s not tied to someone else’s account still, at you won’t be able to add it to yours until they disconnect it from theirs and type in the unique reset code that August app sends you when this is done. (I know only from research as I thought this was the issue, but it wasn’t until I got it exchange through Amazon warehouse that I realized it was just that the unit was not functional as soon as the replacement lit up in its brilliant red backlight when I put the batteries in.)ever since I got the exchanged unit from Amazon I’ve had no real issues. The unit reports low bluetooth signal but has never had an issue connecting quickly and reliably, I imagine it’s very difficult to connect via bluetooth Low Energy spec and being in the difficulty position of attempting to communicate with a lock that is behind a (in my case metal, metal reflects RF energy) door, plus a wooden frame (wood absorbs RF energy, as does any organic compound) and a cinder block or brick wall plus insulation material (reflections from radiant barrier insulation and stone based building materials including drywall, and lead based outdoor paints which all reflect RF, and interior and interior wall paints which absorb rf as they are typically organic based (oil is organic and absorbs rf energy) with a double whammy because paint is also designed to be fire retardant making them semi reflective rf wise, then and in a humid Florida environment (water absorbs RF energy the best/most and people are mostly water so your hands near the keypad after entering the code will hamper connectivity too. not to mention that’s how microwave ovens work which just the exact same frequency band range of 2.4GHz, and WiFi is also 2.4-2.49GHz so there’s that constant noise coming from every device and WiFi router and bluetooth device) I imagine this is why the keypad is made of such a lightweight plastic as anything sturdier would require an external antenna, or a more powerful radio which would make it not possible to be battery powered. As it is, bluetooth le devices are typically powered by coin batteries, think Tile. Which get a year or life via bluetooth le or more. So 2 AA is definitely in there because they had the space to do so, to overcome the above difficulties stated above, and for longevity.SUGGESTION: I believe that if it were possible to refresh the design in such a way where the antenna(s) were printed on the edge of the device or somehow located behind the batteries this may improve communication as the batteries themselves may be reflecting some of the signal away from the lock perhaps. Or making the keypad slightly larger so it could be used with gloves on more easily, further separating the distance between the users fingers (which absorb bluetooth) may allow for better use ability and transmission. Also the size would make typing in codes take a fraction of a second longer, thereby fixing the issues I’ve read others having with entering the codes in quicker than the keypads power effecient cpu can process them.

Working well again!!!
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Works like a charm with the lock! Had it for a week so far. Love how different codes can be set up to different phone numbers. No more leaving keys near the door! Noticed some bonus feature is that it actually buzz for a while if you get the code wrong multiple times, as if to catch attention that someone tries to get in but failed.UPDATE (7/05/2019): Putting this back to 4 stars. Ever since August replaced the Keypad unit the whole combo of lock and keypad has been working well with several months of battery life. As you can see I have had the locks and keypad for several years now. I still have battery saving mode on and homekit disabled just in case history repeats itself. Otherwise no complaints.—- HISTORY —-UPDATE (8/20/2016): Dialing the stars from 5 to 2. I have installed the keypad for just about 30 days; Problems started around 10 days ago when it won’t unlock at all, but recovered by itself several hours later; Luckily we had our phone to connect to the lock directly. Then yesterday while everyone was out our dog sitter took the dog out using her code, but couldn’t get back in after standing there for 15 minutes trying !!!!!! When I got back, at first the keypad had no response and no light, figured the battery must have died, but without further tempering the keypad works again later in the evening…. We use the keypad just about 2-3 times a day, each time once to lock it behind us, once to open again. I see from other reviews that this range of battery life seems to be consistent. But if it starts being temperamental at 20 days, this really means you have to make sure you keep the battery fresh within that time… which is… i must say, disappointing. I see August is recommending turning off the proximity backlit feature, I will try that and see when the next problem comes… hopefully you won’t hear from me for months.UPDATE (9/20/2016): The Keypad continued to be temperamental. The firmware update recently helped not much. Tried replacing both the locks and the keypad batteries at the same time using Duralock batteries. I now use keys to get back into my house. Possibly seeking a refund here. I liked the idea very much but this is turning out to be a slap in the face for spending money.UPDATE (12/27/2017): In June/July 2017 I finally contacted support@august within the warrantee period, at first they asked me to test a few things, and eventually they gave me a brand new replacement keypad with drama. With the new unit, I have removed the lock from HomeKit; and when the August App/bluetooth is not competing to connect to the Lock, the Keypad works quite reliably. The battery life seem to have improved too, it definitely seems to last more than a month now. I am actively using the keypad, six months on after replacement, no major problems, albeit without all the bells and whistles, at least it is usable, still carry and ask guests to use keys though.

Keep batteries available
I love the WiFi hookup. The location is not manned, so deliveries can be problematic. The August systems allow me to open the door and allow deliveries in. My only complaint is battery life, even with lithium batteries is not as long as I think reasonable. That aside I recommend this product.

Initially there was an issue where the device detected, started setup but hung on the Firmware update. A call to the support line (very helpful BTW) got it sorted out. My issue was caused by an issue with the latest Android version, the support staff reset the device in my account and it completed firmware updates with iOS.That glitch aside! The device was easy to connect, easy to setup and easy to mount. Its a great add-on for my vanilla August lock. Being able to lock the door without digging out my keys is great, and the passcode entry is great for when you accidentally lock your keys in, or need temporary access for a tradesman. If you have an August already this is a great addon. If buying a new August, I’d recommend getting this in the bundle

Adorei o SmartLock, me poupou de muita dor de cabeça esquecendo o celular em casa.De rápida resposta. Para mim que moro em apartamento o material atende muito bem, para áreas externas talvez não seja o ideal.

Great functional product.Teething issues which configuring the same. You require to be close to the lock while configuring it.First attempt didnât work straight. Second time post reset device got upgraded. Now the codes work like a charm. However through the configuration and testing i have consumed 4 aaa batteries already.Have setup the device in low power mode however yet understand the usage.

The lock worked fine for a while when I had it, until one day when the keypad stopped working and I removed it from the app to try and rejoin it, and received a message that August is no longer supporting customers outside of US and Canada. That’s right, you paid for a product and they lock you out of the application. Practically daylight robbery. August is now refusing to acknowledge the situation nor do anything about it. They will redirect you to their local ‘Yale’ partner who will pretend that they don’t have anything to do with August even though Yale practically acquired August. To August: This is was low. You should not be locking customers out of the app without recourse. Imagine if the lock had failed and there was no way I could troubleshoot except to call a locksmith and throw the device away? No announcements, nothing. No proper plans for customers. No proper documentation. Zero. This was a very very disappointing. Experience. To Yale: I will not consider ANY of your products either and will be putting my money with your competitors.
