Surprisingly compact and solid
I decided to get rid of the paper and keep soft copies of all my documents that I want (or need!) to keep. I have a LOT to scan, and although I love my old flatbed scanner (which is GREAT for graphics), it wasn’t up to the task of a MOUNTAIN of paper. After reading a slew of reviews on numerous products, I chose this scanner for it. So glad I did.Because I just moved, I had a tough time finding a USB 3 cable (you need a M/M cable) even though I have a million of the things somewhere. Even if you plan to use it via Wifi (which is how I’m using it) having a USB 3 cable handy would be VERY good for the setup, especially for the firmware update it wants to do. I was eventually able to get the firmware update to work via Wifi, but it was a little tricky, and the avg user may not have the patience for it. I do agree with some of the reviews that setup overall could have been streamlined a bit… but it wasn’t awful. But once the thing is setup, WOW it’s GREAT. I’d watched a review vid on U-tube (not sure Amazon will let me link to it… but look for one from a notary where he shows how he feeds a LARGE 100-page closing document throug). Once you see that video, it brings A LOT of clarity to a number of things — for instance, why it feeds from back-to-front (as opposed to the way most printers pull paper). Answer? It’s so you can add more and more paper to the stack AS it scans, so you can do 100-page docs without too much trouble and it all saves in a single PDF.Anyway, this thing is fast, very accurate and in my opinion worth the money. BTW, I would NOT use something like this for high-quality GRAPHICS. For that, get the table / flat-bed scanner. This is absolutely a document scanner… use it for that, and you’ll be happy.Be sure to pick up the bunny ears on the document feeder (they stick up to make a “V” shape) and hold the paper so it doesn’t fall out. Seems like a few of the reviewers didn’t notice them. Also, be sure to LIFT the little paper-edge clips all the way. My first document run-through, I didn’t have them quite unfolded all the way, and the paper kind of slid sideways a little. But once I got them all the way open, I had no issues after that.Anyway, I really like this thing for the money.

Attractive, compact & has wide variety of features.
I have a Brother printer that’s been a workhorse at home so I went with another Brother product hoping it will be the same. A very long users manual can be downloaded & I confess, I’m still working my way through it. I connected it via my home network & it works fine but does seem to need many steps repeated each time & is a bit slow connecting. The actual scanning is fast though. I’ll update this review after I clear up several areas though.I’ve got it set to scan to my PC via my network but I’m trying to find out how to determine a specific location for those scans to alway end up at. As it is, they are numbered files dropping into the Documents folder. Initially I saw something had created a Brother folder & I want to see how to establish that again.I find it confusing using the Brother Utilities add on vs the Brother iPrint&Scan add on so I’m working my way through how to set the scanner to do the same thing each time without me having to open a program or re-set the exact same settings I just used right on the scanner touch screen. It’s a new user bit of confusion I’m sure but the touch screen on the scanner is great. My old Zerox portable this is replacing was a ‘plain jane’ scanner that did things perfectly the same each time without a lot of fiddling around. I hope to eventually get that from this scanner. I only use it for home issues like copying bills, documents, etc. so my needs are basic.More to follow as I get time to spend going through the features which honestly look good. My old Zerox protable was more metal whereas this is all plastic so it doesn’t feel as sturdy as the old one but it’s pretty solid & heavy for a portable so we’ll see. I just bought a USB scanner cable & I’m going to connect it to my desk CPU & see how it performs that way vs the network. I’ll update as soon as possible. Brother has an excellent reputation for quality so I’m sure this scanner will live up to that standard.

It’s a Solid Scanner for small office
So I have had this scanner now for a week or so. It’s not perfect, but it also is on the lower end of the price scale so that is to be expected. All that being said, I love it. It easier to use than my printer/scanner and I like being able to customize workflows (scans to specific folders) and 1 button scans (a workflow saved as a 1 button scan). And it does the most important job of all, it scans 2-sided!I am using it to scan deposit checks, bills, account statements, contracts, etc….most everything goes to a specific folder, but some scans go to a generic folder to be renamed and relocated. The scanner is networked with a static IP so my laptop doesn’t have to be plugged into it to work. It sits on my desk, not at the printer (away from my desk) and I turn it on when I need it and turn if off and close the lid when I don’t need it.The reason I bought it: It can scan 2-sided. My printer/scanner does not.The only negative is the LCD screen is very difficult to read at an angle. So you have to be looking pretty much down at the screen to see it and then it’s perfectly easy to read. All and in all, If you are looking for a low-cost scanning solution – (desktop, 2-sided) – this scanner has done exactly what I needed it to do.

THE BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY! SPEND MORE FOR BETTER BRAND! BUYER BEWARE!
This is LITERALLY the biggest joke of a product. Instructions, tech support are non existent. Want to download drivers? Get yourself an IT degree and prepare to sift through downloads because this joke of a company doesn’t bundle the drivers into one download…nope you have to pluck through a list. DOES NOT PROTECT OR SCAN CARDS. Eats cards in the card slot for breakfast damaging them, jamming them, and really causing a giant hassle for customers. Seriously…avoid Brother at all costs! Go with a reputable, less joke of a brand. The extra $100 is worth your sanity and protecting your and customers/clients documents.
