74HC595
At sometime or another you may run out of pins on your Arduino board and need to extend it with shift registers. This example is based on the 74HC595. The datasheet refers to the 74HC595 as an “8-bit serial-in, serial or parallel-out shift register with output latches; 3-state.” In other words, you can use it to control 8 outputs at a time while only taking up a few pins on your microcontroller. You can link multiple registers together to extend your output even more.
4N35
The 4N35 is an optocoupler for general purpose application. It consists of gallium arsenide infrared LED and a silicon NPN phototransistor. When the input signal is applied to the LED in the input terminal, the LED lights up. After receiving the light signal, the light receiver then converts it into electrical signal and outputs the signal directly or after amplifying it into a standard digital level. Thus, the transition and transmission of electricity-light-electricity is completed. Since light is the media of the transmission, meaning the input terminal and the output one are isolated electrically, this process is also be known as electrical isolation.
PN2222 NPN Transistor
The small DC motor, is likely to use more power than an Arduino digital output can handle directly. If we tried to connect the motor straight to an Arduino pin, there is a good chance that it could damage the Arduino. A small transistor like the PN2222 can be used as a switch that uses just a little current from the Arduino digital output to control the much bigger current of the motor. The transistor has three leads. Most of the electricity flows from the Collector to the Emitter, but this will only happen if a small amount is flowing into the Base connection. This small current is supplied by the Arduino digital output.
Electrolytic Capacitor
An electrolytic capacitor is a type of capacitor that uses an electrolyte to achieve a larger capacitance than other capacitor types. An electrolyte is a liquid or gel containing a high concentration of ions. Almost all electrolytic capacitors are polarized, which means that the voltage on the positive terminal must always be greater than the voltage on the negative terminal. The benefit of large capacitance in electrolytic capacitors comes with several drawbacks as well. Among these drawbacks are large leakage currents, value tolerances, equivalent series resistance and a limited lifetime.
Ceramic Capacitor
A ceramic capacitor uses a ceramic material as the dielectric. Ceramics were one of the first materials to be used in the production of capacitors, as it was a known insulator. Ceramic capacitors are usually made with very small capacitance values. Ceramic capacitors are also very small in size and have a low maximum rated voltage. They are not polarized, which means that they may be safely connected to an AC source. Ceramic capacitors have a great frequency response due to low parasitic effects such as resistance or inductance.
1N4007 Diode
A diode is a device which allows current flow through only one direction. That is the current should always flow from the Anode to cathode. The cathode terminal can be identified by using a grey bar as shown in the picture above. For 1N4007 Diode, the maximum current carrying capacity is 1A it withstand peaks up to 30A. Hence we can use this in circuits that are designed for less than 1A. The reverse current is 5uA which is negligible. The power dissipation of this diode is 3W. Applications of Diode: ● Can be used to prevent reverse polarity problem ● Half Wave and Full Wave rectifiers ● Used as a protection device ● Current flow regulators

Great Company!
kit comes with small circuit board to power the breadboard, but not any way to actually plug it in. And its a very uncommon cord needed to supply power. Very annoyedUpdate: company reached out and was very friendly. They refunded the extra amount that I had to spend ordering a power cord. Shows a culture of respect integrity for their customers. I will be on the lookout for elegoo products going forward!

Solid kit for the price
The breadboard is quite small – about the size of a credit card. This is great for small, simple tests and projects with good wire management, but the large jumper wires included make it rather messy. I’m a bit confused as to why a 4.5 inch board is paired with 7 inch wires. The power supply is also sold separate – kit contains an Arduino compatible power module, but no outlet power supply, 9V battery connector, or 5V USB power connector. Outlet power supply (9V) will run you an extra $8. Kit is therefore unusable out of the box as a standalone. Inclusion of 9V battery connector, or a 3V connector (holds a pair of AA batteries) would bump this to a solid 5/5.Resistor diversity is useful, but oddly contains a large quantity (I believe 24) 220 Ohm resistors, while the other sizes (10, 100, 1K, etc) come in small quantity of 8-10, but this has not been problematic.LED array is great, a generous quantity of multiple colors.

Great kit for learning with
No problems with the kit itself and the power board is labeled well. There are lots of little bits to breadboard a project with. Elegoo makes a lot of great products and their pricing is on the money. It would be great if this kit contained some starter projects using an example of each type of component in this kit, i.e. this is how capacitors/diodes/resistors are used. even if they linked to videos or online diagrams.

I fall to pieces
Lots and lots of “pieces” for a decent price.

Good components selection, bent pins on PSU
Package came with all components as described. I use it with my Raspberry Pi. Nice, varied selection of components and lengths of jumper wire.Iâm only unsatisfied with the PSU, which came with bent and misaligned pins (see pictures), which other reviewers reported. After fixing this myself, it seems to work fine, though.Rated power input is 6.5-9v, but it works fine and provides correct voltage on 12v (All I had on hand at the time). The PSU board uses 2x AMS1117, which datasheets indicate has a max rating of 15v. If you are unsure, go ahead and order the recommended 9v 1a supply.

This was bought last minute whilst I was traveling for work so I could help my daughter with her end of year STEAM project at a weekend.Along with an ESP32 I ordered separately we were able to quickly build her project up whilst I helped her over Skype. Great quality components (metal film resistors, no carbon), good range of LED’s, little power board included and most importantly quite a solid breadboard. The jumper wires are a bit cheap but to have so many was great and made up for the 2-3 I broke whilst rushing with a layout. You’d be pushed to buy half the components separately in such small volume for the same price so this kit was greatly appreciated. And it arrived in 18 hours.

Decent kit if you’re just looking to get started working with electronics. It has most of what you need to get off the ground at reasonable value.A few of the positives:- The breadboard is very nice, much better build quality than others I’ve purchased in the past.- The majority of the components work well.- The box and individual packaging of the components is useful and relatively well made.- The power supply module is attached to some foam so the pins won’t bend in shipping. Then, the negatives:- The buzzers worked, but not very well.- The power supply module seems pretty cheap, and I doubt it will last long. It also doesn’t come with an appropriate cable, so you’ll have to supply your own to make use of it. I expected this last part because I read about its absence in other reviews, but I didn’t anticipate it being such an odd cable required.- A few of the LEDs didn’t work correctly (although the majority did).Overall, not a bad purchase, but if you already have some of the parts already, perhaps look for cheaper options, or something more reliable.Edit: ELEGOO contacted me after I wrote this review and sent me replacement parts without any hastle. I upgraded my rating since their customer service was so good.

I started my interest in electronics in a different age, more than 40 years ago. In those days, breadboards were very expensive and out of the reach of most hobbyists. Many a time I recycled components and the stripboard, as the cost was prohibitive. A trip to the electronics shop was expensive, and much pocket money was diligently saved for the latest chip or piece of kit. This kit which I purchased to support my Elegoo Arduino, like the processor board itself, is top notch. Extremely well packaged, I was impressed with how much was crammed into the box. The fact that high-quality polythene bags were used for the components speaks volumes, although in my day we would be looking at tin-foil or anti-static bags for the more sensitive components. I get the impression once again that Elegoo care about their customers and the quality of their offering. My only criticism I can make is trivial. The breadboard is in 3 sections, with a large self-adhesive pad for attaching to a permanent surface. I’d have preferred if the pad was packed separately, that way I could expand the board horizontally without fuss if needed. As to how long the components will last etc., with care and attention they should last well. The legs of any component will eventually give up the ghost with too much bending, and wiring errors will easily kill off polarity sensitive components such as diodes and capacitors etc. All of that is part of the rough and tumble of circuit development and testing. I wouldn’t expect the kit to last forever, but it certainly won’t break once you take it out the packaging.I know if as a kid my dad had brought this home I would be ecstatic. If you are looking for a components kit to introduce someone as to how to expand their Arduino or Raspberry Pi, I can’t recommend this enough. You will need to purchase a device separately to get any use from it though.

Purchased this a few days ago after taking a lesson on the Raspberry pi.Long story short:I would suggest you buy this product If you want to try your hand at electronics, but buy something else if you do enjoy it.Long Story:I have mixed feelings about this kit. First off, It allowed me to see if i enjoyed working on hardware project, But at the same time I was frustrated by how cheep everything felt. The jumper cables felt cheep, the breadboard was a pain to use and they supplied a power supply without any plug to connect it to, I understand why they didn’t but a 9V battery clip would have been enough to power the device. All the components work great, I managed to break a few jumper cables but I didn’t expect them to last.UPDATE:After my initial review the company got in touch to see why I wasn’t 100% satisfied. They where extremely nice and more than happy to help, to the point that they sent me some extra bits.I was expecting the same breadboard and some extra jumper cables. I recieved 3 breadboards and a load of jumper cables, which was a bit of a nice supprise. but this means I can’t change my original review, But I would like to expand on it :)so once again “The short story”:I enjoyed the product and would suggest you buy it if you want to try out electronics. But I will stick with what I said, buy something else if you really enjoy it and want to do more. The long story:Like I mentioned I loved the product, It had its faults(which I will cover) but over all I enjoyed the kit. I said it before but It allowed me to check if I would enjoy electronics. The jumper cables where a pain and the breadboard was a bit hard to insert the cables into for a while, but after a few uses they loosen up a bit.The good things:The breadboard is a nice size, I was able to fit the 74HC595 (Shift registor) 8 LED’s and a 7 segment display all on the one board, it was a bit of a squeeze. The components all came in bags, non of the pins were bent. They supplied loads of jumper cables (more than you will every use on the one breadboard). The kit came with an 8-bit shift registor, which allows you to control 8 leds with 3 connections to any microcontroller. They supplied a 3.3v and 5v power supplyThe really good:There is only one really good point. They care about their customers. They emailed me to see what I had issues with. They took my feedback and also sent me some goodies as an appology for the issues I expressed. The bad things:The jumper cables felt cheap (the second set I got sent where better). The printed lines on the breadboard rubbed off, same with the numbers and letters :/The power supply didn’t come with a adapter to connect connect power.I wasn’t able to test the power supplier because I don’t have a connector for it :/I would also make some suggestions that would make this product better.Supply a 9V battery clip with the adapter so we could use the power supply.I would have liked a small datasheet or pinout of the 8-bit shift registor and optocoupler. It would have been great if you put a 555 timer chip with the product as well, just because it’s such a popular chip (it has loads of fun and simple project that will get people hooked).Following on from the last one, supplier a few project or just a circuit diagram for the shift registor :)To finish off I will say this:Buy it, it’s only £10 and its a nice way to check if you enjoy electronics, I hope the company take my suggestions and atleast supply the 9v battery clip.
