The real deal
Made my experience with my old pc engine the more memorable, my old crt stopped working after 30 years and after hooking up my PC engine to a led tv… I was left in bemusement over how bad the image was, I saw a YouTube use this, I ordered it and wow, it made the image as sharp and perfect as the old CRT… So that’s all goodThe bad part, if you can call it bad, is that if your wires are all bunched up together you may hear a slight noise hum, just untangle the mess or use shorter HDMI cables, that’s what I did, I will still give it 5 stars, been using it for a few months now and I’m still in awe, best of it all, I noticed zero lag playing games, this did not add any noticeable latency issues either, you can change the scanline intensity and the Luma color you desire, if you play retrogames on original hardware, great investment.

Pretty good!
The majority of the scanlines generators are vga only, so itâs nice to have an hdmi option. It works well! Tested on an SNES , PlayStation classic AND Sega Genesis with a GBS-Control. The rgb knobs for controlling color are neat, but unnecessary unless you like the colors to look very warm or cold. There is a switch for even/uneven scanlines. If used with a GBS-Control I recommend 720p resolution with uneven scanlines. You will need a 5v power adapter that isnât included â¦any phone charger should do. Overall, itâs great! Recommended.

So far, so so good
This summer, I went on a quest to move all my retro systems to HDMI. This meant buying HDMI converter cables for Sega Saturn (Xtreme Cables), PS2 (XAgent), and N64 (Hyperkin). I was very happy with these cables as is, except for the Hyperkin, because it relies on an S-video signal instead of RGB like the others…this is a limitation of the N64, though, since that system doesn’t offer RGB output without internal modifications/additional chips. But, as a lover of the N64, I couldn’t help but be disappointed by the picture quality via the Hyperkin HDMI cable.Adding this scanline generator absolutely saves the N64 with Hyperkin HDMI cable. The picture goes from a smeared mess to looking like a very sharp, well-tuned CRT. I am loving the picture I get with this device. It does cause the source volume to drop, however, so you have to crank the volume a bit. There are a multitude of switches, buttons, and dials on this…they all generally achieve differing degrees of scanline action: off, on, thick, thin, and intensity per color channel. The dials in the middle allow you to adjust colors on the fly and either intensify or weaken the scanline effect. Overall, I ended up going with narrow scanlines at maximum intensity.Screenshots taken with my phone really don’t capture the effect this device has on the overall picture, but it is pretty great. Games look like they should, as everything prior to the HDMI systems (PS3/Xbox 360) was designed with a CRT in mind. I’ve attached a few, but as other reviews have mentioned, you have to see it in person. See the shots of “Press Start” for scanlines on vs off…again, it’s hard to see on cellphone photos but in person it looks totally right.I haven’t had sound quality issues, but will update if I do.Do expect more cabling mess using this…well worth it though!

Works with 1080p but hdmi does not always load in my testing
I got this as a cheap way to get scanlines on my HDMI setup. It accepts 1080p input. I tested using an MClassic as input to force 1080p output. There’s not a whole lot of options and you can’t really customize the scanlines outside:1. Kind of thin lines, kind of thick lines2. Odd/Even3. On/OffThat’s more or less it.You can disable and turn off the device (2 switches, effectively do the same thing) but the RGB controls are always on. I usually just leave it at max since there are no notches and at 0, it’s just darker. On input lag check, it adds 0.15 ms of lag. MiSTer Laggy reports on my OLED TV:1. Not connected – 3.33ms2. Connected – 3.48msSo not a whole lot of lag surprisingly. My only issues with it are:1. Kind of meh scanline options2. HDMI does not always work that I have to like power on/off my switches/splitters and the mclassic/4k gamer pro3. It gets a bit warm on the input side of the device4. It adds a bit of noise like on the Switch settings screen, on the parts that are do not have scanlines, you can see noise on the gray background.

Not just for retro games!
This isn’t just for retro games – it makes watching old VHS quality recordings so much easier on the eye.I have a lot of old shows recorded straight off TV – and they’re a nightmare to watch on a regular 1080 or 4k mode. This device adds the old scan lines and somehow makes it smoother and easier on the eye. Even crappy quality VHS recordings look pleasing

Dead on Arrival
Dead on arrival, no output signal and I figure ok, maybe Iâm doing something wrong. Iâve tried an assortment of different micro usb cables and HDMI cables, even different TVs and nothing. Ok, might just be poor luck. I had Amazon issue a replacement and what do you know? The second one is also dead on arrival. This device is low quality and chances of yours working when it arrives are slim. Now I have to waste my time to take both of these to the post office so they can go back to the garbage heap where they belong. Sorry, just being honest. Iâm not going to try a third time, this is just ridiculous at this point.

Good old scanlines.
I used this with my retron and it made old games look amazing. I made the scanlines thin and games look like they did in the good old days. Its very easy to set.
