blows away the expensive scanners, IMHO
Years ago, I had a Nikon Cool Scan. It was very expensive, but it was very, very good. It eventually stopped working, after running about 18 thousand slides through it, and Nikon no longer makes them, so I had to find a new slide scanner for my 35mm slides.I tried the most highly reviewed scanner that costs five hundred dollars, but sent it back because it arbitrarily cropped my slide images, I could not scan a full frame slide with it. Ridiculous.I read a lot more reviews (not on Amazon) and one scanner that was consistently praised for its ease of use and relatively high quality output, was this Kodak scanner. Well, its not really a scanner, it is effectively a 22 mega pixel camera. Anyway, I decided to give it a try.Wow! I just plugged it in to my PC USB port and it just worked. At first I tried adjusting the colors (very old slides) with the scanner, but it was too tedious. So I just ran my slides through it and decided to adjust image color using irfranview image editor.I just finished running about 2000 slides through it.The device saves images to a memory card that you have to buy separately. I found an old 32GB SD card and it works fine.Even though it won’t save images directly to your PC, it is pretty easy to go into the device menu, then select the option to transfer to the PC via USB. Once you make that selection, the device shows up as a mass storage device on your PC and you can copy or move the images just as if it were a USB storage device. Easy-PeasyRunning my slides through the device was easy too.One thing that would be nice would be if Kodak would put very obvious guide lines on the viewing screen that show the left and right boundaries of the image; that would make it easier to ensure that you have the slide properly inserted prior to saving the image. As it is, you can’t easily tell that the slide is inserted properly.Overall, I’m very pleased with this Kodak “scanner”. You can’t print much larger than 8×10 because the images are only 22mp. But that is fine with me.OH, and you need to be sure to clean the dust off of your slides first!

Good fun and useful
This helps find the right negative for ordering prints or converting to electronic files. It was fun to see the negatives pop up on the screen. Simple to set-up and use, this is well worth the money.

Decent, but not spectacular
Not sure exactly what I expected at this price point, so I’ve tried to balance my comments accordingly. First of all, the item is very neat and well-organized. The instruction manual is very good, and the keys/logic are very straight-forward to use/learn. Basically, this is just a box with a camera phone that takes pics of your slides/negative. There’s 2 resolution settings; use the high one, gives files ~3-4 MB each.Good/great: small, lightweight, easy to learn/use, seems like a decent price-point.Not so good/great:- the slide/film carriers sometimes slip out a little from the base unit, leaving edges/shadows in the scans. Took me ~1/2 dozen rolls of film (slides) to figure that out, and had to re-do a couple of them.- it doesn’t handle ‘curled’ negatives very well (that is, curved side-to-side from sprocket edge to sprocket edge). I’ve used it with some ‘old’ stuff (but not that old), ~30-40 yrs, and the film is curled a bit. Sometimes it won’t feed through the mechanism (so you have to take out the slide racks, position by hand, and re-insert). Not THAT big a deal, I suppose, but still a bit of an annoyance.- seems the curling causes it to lose a bit of focus; that is, the film carrier doesn’t force the film to lie perfectly flat in the center of the scanning area.- it takes a bit of getting used to to slide slides (does that make sense?!); starting a box, easy to put in 1, then 2, then the 3rd to help push/align the 1st one, etc. The last couple can be a bit tricky tho; have to use another slide to push/align the last ones. With 2 slides in the tray, you can barely (and I mean BARELY) grasp 1 from the left and 1 from the right to pull them out (otherwise, you’ll have to use another slide to push them through). One thing I didn’t completely realize when I ordered is that you HAVE to have/use an SD card. Description seemed to suggest (to me) ‘optional’, but that’s not the case. I thought I’d be able to hook to laptop and scan/save directly there, but not so. NEED an SD card (luckily I had one on hand); the item saves to the SD card, and then you have to remove from the item, insert into laptop, and copy (etc.). There is a function to transfer from the item to computer but I haven’t tried that…at minimum, you’d still have to disconnect USB from the item (power) and plug into computer. Don’t love that, but it’s really not all that bad.

Very Handy
I have hundreds of old 35 mm slides that I have wanted to digitize for many years. Commercial services are quite expensive so I was hopeful that this scanner would suffice. It is perfect for my needs and does a very good job of scanning with minimal effort and results that Can be edited with appropriate software. It is easy to use and instructions are available online for those who have difficulty reading the small print in the included booklet.

This is the best thing since sliced bread!
I recently purchased this scanner to digitize and view my old slides, and it has exceeded all my expectations! The image quality is perfect and the setup was straightforward, making the scanning process quick and efficient. I was able to preserve countless memories and share them easily with family and friends. I previously purchased a film scanner but it was so difficult to use and time consuming that it just sat in the closet. This scanner has breathed new life into my old photos, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to preserve their slide collections. It literally takes a second to scan a slide and the image quality is good enough to print!

Easy to use.
This cute little machine is an easy to use method of digitizing your old slides and negatives. It can be a little fiddly at first while sliding the negative through. The only negative for me is that it has to stay plugged into to a power source. Otherwise it works great.

OK so it does not “scan” anything, just so’s you know. It’s output is jpg files which is just fine for my purposes. It does a great job of colour slides, colour negative and black and white negative film, producing bright crisp images that pop quite nicely. The brightness adjust works well and I was able to correct numerous snow and sand shots from the 60’s ‘medium grey ‘ white of snow. So useful. Its quick and easy to use and switching from 35mm film to other film is easy. If I was picking nits, the film loading is a bit tricky especially when using the smaller film inserts. (+_50%) Slides are fine but I had some old slides with plastic shrouds that would not fit in the tray. Kodak slides and other paper slides work well, like 99%. Power consumption is minimal. Output to an SD card and it prefers the cards formatted to Ex-FAT.All said and done, it does a great job. Highly recommended.
