Seems a little pricey but worth it
This is a review of âLivTee Wireless Car Charger Mount, Automatic Clamping Mount, 15W Fast Wireless Charging Car Phone Holder, Universal for All Mobile Phones, Fit for iPhone, Fit for Samsung Galaxy etcâ. Iâm including the item name to help guard against any future review hijacking. This smartphone car mount retails for over $25 as of the time of review (late May 2024), which seems a little high to me even now. Iâll start with some of my concerns with it.First, I wasnât able to get it to charge any of my devices at 15W, as measured by my USB test equipment. This could be because it actually doesnât do 15W, but more likely, itâs because the induction coil on my one Qi 15W-capable phone doesnât line up perfectly with the coil in the device. Iâm not knocking this product for it, but that still means that 15W charging is hit-or-miss depending on your exact model of phone. And if you have an iPhone, those can charge at higher wattages if youâre using a real Apple charger, but for Qi charging youâre limited to 7.5W at most. The automatic opening/closing mechanism is obviously powered off an internal lithium-ion battery that I assume gets automatically charged as needed by diverting some power from the USB port. At some point, this battery will stop holding a charge, and then this car mount wonât open or close anymore unless plugged in.Finally, the part that grabs onto the air conditioner vent grille feels plasticky and cheap. Iâm torn on this one, actually. We all know that with this design of mount, the vent grille is going to weaken and snap at some point anyway – hopefully many years in the future, after the carâs already been sold on. If it were metal, it would probably wear away at the vent grille much more over time and make that breaking point arrive that much sooner. However, after several weeks of using it, I think it actually does justify its price. When it comes down to it, this mount is just nice to use. Although some of the parts feel janky, the system as a whole feels pretty sturdy after a while, and I donât worry that it will drop my phone anymore. Once you get the hang of tapping the back of the mount to get the arms to open/close, it becomes second nature. I didnât realize how much strain itâs saving on the air conditioner vent grille now that Iâm not fiddling around with the mount to get the arms to open/close, and, well, itâs just cool to watch it do its thing. The only realistic deal-breaker is if you have a larger (call it 6â and up) and a thicker, âsportsâ-oriented case. For reference, it works fine with an iPhone 14 Pro Max and a regular hybrid TPU/polycarbonate case, but only barely. With anything larger for whatever reason, the arms wonât close all the way.

Works well but…
Charger works well but it kind of has a mind of its own at times and I don’t like to leave it plugged in because I don’t want to train my car battery if it detects a phone that’s not there. The vent clip is okay but I have vertical vents so it didn’t really know about there either. It does charge well but it also covers my power button on my Samsung s23. If you have an iPhone or a different model this might not affect it but it didn’t really work with my phone. I understand contact different layout so I can’t really fault it for that. It is kind of neat how it works and it does work well it just do not work great with my car vents my phone style

Solid, handy, fun design
This phone mount is a great option when you don’t want to glue something to your dashboard but still want a solid phone holder.I was impressed at how sturdy the phone mount is once installed. Not only was I able to get it nice and secure against the AC vent but could also tighten up the angle of the holder itself so it was tilted just right. Multiple drives, even on bumpy roads, and everything has stayed nice and solid just where it needs to be.The charging option is a plus. It’s not a super fast charge but it seems to do the trick. (I suspect I could connect to a fast-charge outlet for better throughput). The automatic opening and closing of the arms to hold the phone is a fun design touch. The kids really love the “high tech” feel of the thing. It would be nice if it held just a little charge so it could open/close without needing the car to be on so I could insert or remove a phone without having to start up the car (for those times we forget to grab the phone when rushing out of the car and then turn around to grab it and have to put the key back in the ignition). The instructions recommend running the AC to keep the phone and device cool while charging. This seems fine during the summer but I do have a slight concern of overheating in the wintertime if I’m running the heater on long trips. Fingers crossed that it still works alright. (worst case, I would likely unplug from power while driving and let the heater run)Overall this is a solid choice for an AC mounted phone holder.

Design permits for smaller phones
I have a Samsung Galaxy 22 Plus that thing is the smallest foot I’ve had for years. The interesting thing is on some of the auto QI chargers that grab the phone a they tend to press the power button which then you got a clip the bracket .This one the clasps that hold the phone are designed to put more pressure on the outside of the phone and then hold the phone close to the keyway charging surface. This is an interesting concept because usually if the grippers are flat wherever you end up having the phone is where it’s going to set. This actually keeps the phone pressed against the QI surface this is a nice feature and also if you use your phone while you’re on the road, proximity sensors tend to open up the gripping mechanism on the phones while you’re trying to use it which is kind of annoying. In this case the sensor to release it is on the back side so you would actually have to put your hand in back of the phone behind the gripping mechanism and then it will sense your hand there and then release the phone and after about three or four seconds it closes back up. Once the phone is gone and you need to replace the phone in the cradle their sensors on the front where if you wave your hand they will open and then close again .Great design nice functionality for a charger in a car really thought out. Aesthetically the smooth design is awesome because it’s aesthetically really dark plastic and very smooth looking very futuristic.
