Works great
Very effective against deer running in front of your vehicle I have been using these for over 11 years and the only reason I had to buy a new one was because I sold my truck that the last one was installed on. Very easy to install takes about 30 minutes and when the device is not on it does not whistle while driving at any speed.

The doppler effect in action
Despite what some think, deer are not suicidal. They are just very unequipped for streets and cars. You can drive with your lights blaring but deer cannot comprehend headlights (or the concept of something generating light and moving) and will run in front of you.I’ve used this electronic deer alarm for a few years now and I believe that it works mainly the the principle of the doppler effect. Deer can discern the doppler effect unlike approaching headlights, the chirping also gives them the illusion that it’s associated with an animal.I have a video of deer actually picking their heads up and noticing my approaching car (if you frequently encounter deer while driving, you know that isn’t usual). As I get closer, they pick up speed and then turn around to view my passing car. This alarm also works on pedestrians and kids as a bonus. When backing out from a parking lot or driving in an area where kids run into the street, I will turn this on, and similar to deer, people will pick up on a relatively fast moving object emitting a chirping sound.I have also tried to use one of these attached to a battery to keep deer away from my vegetation, but that does not work. They don’t recognize it as danger unless they hear the source moving quickly.

Yes, there is a rattlesnake sound!!
Last year I avoided hitting a small herd of deer that darted into the wooded road near our home. I avoided an accident, but blew out my brake lines in the process! I was driving an old ’84 VW Diesel Rabbit and I hate to think what the strike would have looked like. We live in a semi-rural area that is infested/over run with a burgeoning deer population. They have attacked our dogs, destroyed our landscaping, our gardens and we have near misses regularly on our country roads. This year I have declared WAR on the Bast**ds! We are using the Contech CRO101 Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler for the garden and it is working like a charm! Also an AMAZON purchase. We purchased a new Chevrolet Sonic and I insisted that the deer alert was installed as soon possible. It was installed at the dealership, which was a bad idea, but it gave us a great clue as to the two layers of sound that this alert produced. When we picked up the car we could barely hear the alarm at all. The service staff was gone for the day, so we took it home and looked very closely at the full install only to find that the alert horn was enclosed in the hood-latch well, about 4″x 5″! Damn, that was the ONLY entirely metal space in the front of the car that was capable of baffling sound!!! Still, we could hear a hissing-rattling sound in a repeated pattern! Yes, under the high pitched sonic chirp there is the very certain sound of RATTLESNAKE, as the extended product description states. We would not have heard it if the tech had not made a bad choice on the placement.I un-installed the alert horn, reinstalled directly behind the grill and voila` the loud sonic chirp sounded and we no longer hear the semi-baffled rattle, but we know it is there. Deer are avoiding us and I think we should install one on a pole in the back yard! We recommend the alert, and at this low cost it is affordable for all our vehicles.TRY IT! But if you don’t install it yourself, look for someone familiar with car stereo installs, skip the dealer!

It does work, but…
I installed this on a 98 outback. I live in West Virginia where the deer are thicker then rats. It’s more of letting a deer know your around then making them despearse and run the other way. But, it’s not 100% effective, and the package tells you just that. It does what it claims to do. I wired it into my high beams, which I think is easier then running wires in the cab to a switch. It lets the deer know you are around , so you are not surprising them. I can recommend this product, but it’s not a cure all, you still have to do your part and be viligent. Deer are very dumb animals when it comes to road traffic, there is no 100% way to detur them, this does help a good bit.

Deer in the open as you approach have their heads up and ears cocked and are looking for the source of the chirping. Getting their attention is all any alert is going to do. This likely will not deter a deer on the run that suddenly pops out of the ditch right in front of you. But when you’re driving slow this still works while a whistle will not. Was easy to install and cannot be heard inside with the road noise. Just bought a second one for my other car.

Great product, easy to install. Had far fewer sightings of deer and other wildlife since.

The noise made by this device can get the animalâs attention, slows them down, and gives you a few extra seconds so react and avoid a collision. We have one on each of our vehicles as we drive almost exclusively on country roads with lots of wildlife. We just got a new truck, and so ordered a new Deer Alert right away. Wouldnât drive without one!

Best thing I have bought for my car. I hit a deer at 33 miles per hour and the deer whistle only kicks in at 35 mph and above so I nnede something better. This alarm is heard by the deer and they run away from me when I turn it on. Gives me at least another 10mph confidence although I won’t stake my life on it and still scan the road at night very carefully.
