The review for Walmart OGP/Stockers
Seldom do I review much of anything I buy from this site, but given there’s not a lot of information about my specific use case for this, I’d figure I’d leave one for anyone that happens to be curious and is in a similar position.Context: I’m an overnight Walmart Team Associate, five nights a week, and I stock shelves all night long. A majority of my nights are spend in the Frozen food isles stocking there and creating inventory tags for the product. (Vizpick Label if you’re familiar with the terminology.) We recently had been shipped Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro phones to replace the old TC70 and ect, handheld devices we use to find items, print labels, price changes, and so on. This was company wide, btw. The old devices had a barcode scanner built into it, but these new devices don’t. While it’s possible to use the camera, it’s often a pain depending on the lighting, the focus, the item itself, just slower overall. Most of the workers are obviously annoyed at this, and there’s no plans to send any scanners with the phones as far as I know. There’s an argument to be made about workers having to purchase this kind of stuff, that the company should be paying for this, but this review isn’t about that. I had cashback stacked on my Prime rewards card so I hardly paid for this. If you’re looking for something for a very similar use case, or work at Walmart in a similar position, and don’t care dropping the $35 for a scanner, read on.The scanner itself is obviously not top-tier engineering, cheap plastic, could use some grip for the handle. Kind of bulky, but I have a tool holster and it fit in the widest hook pretty well. The button has maybe 2MM of travel before it clicks, but it’s not bad. Got some weight to it, not as much as the hand-scanners at the registers. On the bottom is where the USB dongle is stored, but there’s no cover for it. I just left it in the box. The USB cable plugs into the bottom as well, uses a big ‘printer cable’ USB port. I’m unsure if you can use the cable for a printer, and probably would have tested it if I had one. Also, the USB port is exposed. While the port itself is about half an inch deep, I wouldn’t be surprised if it died because some liquid got into there. Be mindful of that. The light on top has at least 3(?) colors. When you initially plug it in to charge, it’ll probably be orange, but turns to green when it’s completely full. Pressing the button once wakes it up. Assuming you’re using the bluetooth, it’ll sync to your phone the same as pulling out any wireless earbuds. But sometimes it takes a moment, it’s been as short as 5 seconds, but sometimes takes 15-20. Not sure why, as there’s no other devices paired to the phone.Once it’s on and connected, the light turns blue, and that’s it. It handles the barcodes by acting like a bluetooth keyboard. When you scan a barcode, it types it out, then presses enter. I haven’t read through the manual to see if it can be tweaked, but for the most part is consistent. Sometimes it can scan only half of the barcode, so be sure the red line light is picking up the whole barcode. Also, time to bring up the manual. Somewhat not as bad broken English, if you’re tech savvy and have comprehended my review up to this point, it’s not hard to set up. To change any of it’s settings, (Sleep time, bluetooth mode, ect,) it has a series of barcodes that you scan to set those settings. It’s strange, but given it only has one button, I don’t know how else it could have been done without a computer. (Maybe a dedicated BT button?) All you really do is scan a barcode that puts it into bluetooth pairing mode, and have your phone pair it like any other bluetooth device, didn’t take long and was ready to go in only a minute. So, for the Walmart workers that know about the new phones and how handling inventory works, well, it’s more consistent than the camera. Assuming you’re in the Me@Walmart app and in the shelf availability menu, you just hit the search icon, then scan. It types it in and hits enter. Given I had the phone a week before getting the scanner, I can say for me it’s been a lot more faster and consistent. If I’m printing vizpick labels for overstock, after I hit print, I hit the search again so I’m ready to scan another item immediately after. It’s held up well in other departments from pets to automotive, from garden to housewares. For OGP, I’m not too familiar with, and they haven’t taken away all of our old devices for OGP (yet,) but every OGP associate that uses a phone has told me it’d be better given the sleep time for the scanner could be set to up to 30 minutes. I should also mention the manual has a barcode to turn it off manually, might have to print it out with some online barcode creator, or a good picture on your phone. As far as battery life goes, sleep mode being 1 minute and using it at least 2 hours a day roughly, it’s lasted 10 days over 2 weeks of work. I did notice it drained the phone’s batter a bit more, but I charge it when I wake up before work anyway, so it’s never been a big issue.Durability, still unsure of. I did drop it once from about 3 1/2 feet, onto concrete, and didn’t have or see any issues. Dunno about the next fall, but will update it when it does fall and break.—Overall, it’s been pretty good. My main issues are the cheap plastic possibly falling apart on a really bad fall, the exposed USB charging port at the bottom, and the scanner only picking up part of the barcode. But otherwise, it’s been consistent, faster, and the night I walked into work with it, I felt like the cool kid at school that got a Gameboy for his birthday, and everyone was asking to try it out and in envy that I have a scanner with a decent handle.I’ll update this review if anything comes up, but overall, if you’re a Walmart worker looking for a cheap scanner for freight, labels, and tagging stuff, this is a good option if you can get over it being slightly bulky.

Very good at scanning imperfect barcodes
First of all, I do not use this via Bluetooth, because, in general, in my experience, Bluetooth is to finicky. This unit comes with it’s own proprietary RF dongle, so you plug the dongle into a USB port, and the scanner is ready to go.Obviously, the cost is amazing. Also, the unit is very durable. I have been using mine for over a year (100s of hours per year), and have dropped it onto a concrete floor with ceramic tile on top of the concrete several times (this type of surface is very unforgiving), and it didn’t skip a beat. Now, for the best part….this unit scans very difficult barcodes. I scan 1,000s of barcodes per month, and I had all sorts of trouble with other scanners when the barcode was not the best. Through plastic (shrink wrap), crinkled, distorted, weak printing, certain color combinations (blue for example), etc etc…..you name it. This scanner never ceases to amaze me when it properly scans these troublesome UPCs, that my other scanners choked on. Nothing is more frustrating than a UPC scanner that will not scan a UPC that is not perfect, but this one is VERY robust. I highly recommend this scanner.

Pretty good for the money!
I’ve been looking for a relatively inexpensive bar/QR code scanner to recommend to my customers for the inventory control system on my website and decided to give this one a go. I’m glad I did, as for a value product, it actually works quite well.It isn’t without its quirks, that’s for sure. And some of those aren’t really its fault. It behaves a bit weirdly when connected with Bluetooth. Don’t get me wrong, it does work. But there are occasions when it does some odd things. The biggest annoyance is that iOS won’t pop up the built-in keyboard when this scanner is connected (either Bluetooth or USB), which isn’t the scanner’s fault, and it does include some barcodes in the manual that you can scan to cause the keyboard to appear when needed. Again, that’s an iOS quirk, but something you’ll have to deal with if using the scanner with an iPhone or iPad.The USB receiver that came with my unit fell apart the first time I pulled it out of its storage slot, and I had to glue it back together, but it did work. So it may be that quality control could be better. But in terms of its advertised functionality, it absolutely does do with it claims to do. Programming it wasn’t too difficult for the most part, though switching between USB and Bluetooth modes is a little confusing at first. And once setup, it scans quite quickly. Not as fast as the Symbol units I use myself, but performance is quite acceptable.All-in-all, I wouldn’t have an issue recommending this to someone looking for a budget-friendly bar/QR code scanner. It’s built well enough to hold up for most people, and it works as advertised.

So cool
It connects to your phone via Bluetooth. I use the Book Buddy app and can scan barcodes directly to it. I feel like a librarian. I really got it just for fun, but have been using it with every single book I own. It made the process of cataloging them much easier and fun.

Bluetooth can’t connect because it doesn’t recognize the device.
My phone doesn’t even recognize the scanner via Bluetooth, so I can’t connect.I bought it and now I can’t even use it.I tried to return it, but time passed and I couldn’t return it. I asked the seller how to do it, but there was no answer. It seems like I can’t even use it and just throw it away.

Bought this and a more expensive competitor’s model and this Netum, at just over half the price beat it big time. Return the other and will get another of these. Works great, can scan from great distances, easy to connect to LG Android phone and Windows 10 computer (admittedly I have only tried by BT). Love that the dongle (that I have yet to use, stores nicely in the handle, unlike that competing unit I tried.Do wish the USB cord, for wired use, was at least 3 times as long. It’s about 2 feet when 6 to 10 would be more useful for my wired use.
