No longer a techie so it took awhile to figure out the wireless part
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get an exact read of it’s measurements so it didn’t fit in the space I wanted it for – the plug sticks out as well as the paper tray – for 8.5×11 paper, it sticks out beyond the printer footprint. Oh well, that’s my problem. Printing from the USB cable, works exactly as expected. It also took me awhile to figure out how to get it to work remotely as I am using the cable wireless router and not on that I configured for home use so I thought I would be out of luck. This is a PC and Mac household so I got the Bonjour to work but that means I have to switch from the wireless Internet connection to the printer – I have to download anything from the web first (or create a PDF) before printing from the Mac. IP printing from the Mac did not work – in the numerous configurations I tired. For the PC laptop, I also had trouble. The software did not appear to make changes to the printer but I manually entered in an IP Address (there are less than 20 devices on the wireless network so I could use say 192.168.10.100 with no issues). I had to look up the DHCP address on the laptop to get all the other subnet masks, router, and other IP-related pieces of info. In the meantime, we simply shared the USB cable when we needed to print.** I don’t know how someone without any tech knowledge would’ve installed this as I couldn’t get the software to make the changes. **It took a few hours (a couple of days of trying) to research and get it right. We don’t use it all that much so it’s always asleep. From the PC, it seems to always print the config page each time we need to print and we have to hit the wireless button more than once before it connects wirelessly. Not that way with the Mac. Maybe that’s a quirk or a setting I can look into but it does take awhile for the first connection before it prints your file. After that it’s connected and works fine. Not the best experience installing and this is our first wireless printer so there was a learning-curve. Also – I didn’t know how to extend the paper tray and didn’t see it in the guide and had to figure it out on my own. Not deal-breakers, slight frustration at thinking this was going to be simple. However, now that it is set up, I don’t have to really think about it and it works. I like that it can print double-sided as well. One thing to note, it prints the first page with the clean side FACE-DOWN if you are re-using paper to print on the unprinted side. Most inkjets print this way, not laser printers so it was a surprise, not a bug or anything. It’s good size and does have a small-ish footprint, which is helpful and seems quiet enough with printing. We did buy a second later model for our summer place but have yet to set that one up.

NOT COMPATIBLE WITH AIRPRINT
I bought this July 2020 and after Apple updated iPhone to ios 14, AirPrint stopped working with my PANTUM printer. I contacted PANTUM support team and they told me that the latest iPhone update is not compatible with AirPrint and that if I needed to print wirelessly, I need to access PANTUM printer app. Here’s my issue: PANTUM printer APP doesn’t always load pdf files I needed to print; I noticed this only happens when I try to print a file extracted from internet browser (Chrome and Safari alike). So, essentially, I can only print half the time.I have tried since July 2020 to connect PANTUM printer to my desktop computer. IT JUST WON’T WORK. I had iMac 2015 and recently upgraded to iMac 2020 so I do not think the problem lies with my computers. I have tried getting help with PANTUM support team over this. I have emailed them many times with my printer information and I usually get a one-liner response back that is neither helpful or relevant. Perhaps it’s the language barrier because PANTUM support team is based in China (I can only talk to them during specific time zones.). The IT at my workplace have also tried to troubleshoot it with me and still not results. His response was, PANTUM need to update their software(s).I have also tried connecting the printer physically with a cord to my iMac. I downloaded the necessary PANTUM driver in order to install the PANTUM printer onto my computer and it still won’t work. So, as of right now, I can only print with a cord connecting to my printer. It is quite annoying when I need to print because I move my desktop around as I’m working and I am not always sitting close enough to the printer. In summary:1. iMac: It would only print using the cord. I have tried downloading the PANTUM driver and also do a direct wifi connect with PANTUM in-unit wifi hotspot but it does not work.2. iPad: PANTUM app is not user-friendly for iPad version. It would only print if I open files onto PANTUM APP (BY THE WAY, PANTUM app does not support UPLOADS…you need to “open” the document using PANTUM APP in order to print). But PANTUM app does not open internet files.3. iPhone: It will only print if I open files onto PANTUM app. Again, Pantum App only opens and print certain files.I have reached out to PANTUM Support again before writing this devastating review of what could have been a useful printer. And their response to me was “what is the mobile phone system version and printer series number”. This is the response I get every time I contact support even though I always tell them, I have ios 14 and my printer series number is xyz. It is almost like they are not carefully reading my questions and waste time asking questions that there’s already an answer to.I am very frustrated because this is a false advertisement for the printer. USERS BEWARE: AirPRINT is NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THIS PRINTER. I think you’re better off buying a printer with a Support Team that is awake when you are awake. It’s too late for me to return the Printer to Amazon so the only way I can get someone’s attention now is through this review.

Reliable! Duplex printing is great
I hate ink jet printers. You spend a fortune on cartridges and they run out or dry up just when you need them most. As a work from home couple we have printers in practically every room. Every time we most desperately to print something we enter what we call “Printer Hell”. Will the printer actually work? Has a recent Windows update wrecked the printer driver? Are the cartridges out of ink or just dried up? It always feels like a crap-shoot. Finally, I said enough! 95% of what we print is just black & white. And (finally!) a printer that can duplex saves 50% of the paper. Love it! For as inexpensive as this printer is, it produces crisp, clear pages, always seems to work and never dries up. Even if you have an ink jet for those times when you want to print a photo or something else where you need color – have a nice, inexpensive B&W, duplexing laser printer for everything else. 100% satisfied.

forced obsolescence
Printer utilizes forced obsolescence on their toner cartridges as is current trend. Be aware this uses separate toner and drum cartridges, each with their own counter chip that will disable the device once the counter limit is reached.
