Customers like the ease of setup of the electronic switch. For example, they mention it pairs easily with their SmartThings hub and integrates into Home Assistant just fine. That said, opinions are mixed on quality.

Forget the native app, use Home Assistant
I was about ready to send them back to Amazon. With the app, it’s impossible to select a precise color, the color changes with brightness, and the minimum brightness is way too bright. I could barely get an individual color down to about 4.2 volts on the output. If you are not familiar with Home Assistant, go learn about it, you’re going to like it. With Home Assistant these dimmers work almost perfectly with one minor exception. The minimum voltage on the output is about 2.1 volts but that can be easily offset by placing a diode or two in line with each output. The device can handle 24 volts in so if you have 12 volt LED lights, just bump the input voltage up to 13 or 14 volts and drop the outputs a volt or two with diodes or resistors. A diode will give you about 0.5 to 0.7 drop in voltage and will not change significantly with load changes like a resistor. In Home Assistant, you can specify the color values like for example, R = 255, G = 0, B = 0 to get a nice pure red. This will remain constant across the entire brightness range and the voltage will be about 2.4 volts on the output. By changing to R = 150, you can get the output down to about 2.1 volts. These are easy to setup in the native Shelly app and also not difficult to setup in Home Assistant. If Home Assistant does not auto detect them, you might have to enter the IP address but this is easy. Just go to the app in your phone or other mobile device and select the Shelly device. At the bottom on the left select the little gear icon and scroll down to, “device information”. There you can find the IP address. When setting up in Home Assistant it might ask for the Host. Just put in that IP address and wait… and wait… it takes a bit but not too long. After that just add it to your Home Assistant dash board and you’re good to go. You will have very precise control with these light controller.I’ve tried several other RGB light controllers here on Amazon and didn’t really have much luck. I gave one that never worked for me a positive review just because their support was so good. So far these Shelly’s are the only thing that work perfectly for me. Definitely recommended!Home Assistant is a free open source home automation system that can be setup on a Raspberry Pi or NUC style PC, or I suppose any PC. The Shelly devices are a perfect match for it.

Great Product
Great product. Easy and flexible wiring and power options. Support for the external switch is nice feature. App works well as does Alexa and Smartthings integration. Local or cloud connected. Web interface, smtp , etc. Best choice for rgb, rgbw or 4 channel W led projects.

Perfect LED controller
Bought two of these for over/under cabinet lighting. Had trouble initially with the lights occasionally shutting down and immediately turning back on. Shelly tech service was phenomenal, walking me through every step in loading a new firmware. This is service not often found in this day and age.Paired easily with my SmartThings hub, although the Shelly app was all that was needed for 90% of my needs.

These controllers + Home Assistant = Win
I must have 15 or 20 Shelly devices around the house, including eight or so of these LED controllers. The hardware itself is really versatile and is only limited by one’s imagination. The app is and has always been a total pain. It’s beautiful to look at, but trying to set up any of these devices straight through the app seems to depend on the day of the week, the phase of the moon, and chanting ancient prayers. The biggest problem I think is that they all seem to ship with 4-year-old firmware. The two of these controllers I just ordered had 2019 firmware installed. With the amount of turnover I don’t understand how that’s possible but that’s the way it typically is. Using the alternate method described in the instructions, as in connecting to and logging in through the built-in web server on the devices, has a substantially higher success rate. If one can just get the things connected to Wi-Fi, eventually new firmware is made available and once that’s installed things go much smoother.I do have to agree with Monte’s review. Home Assistant precludes the necessity of using the app at all. I did not know about Home Assistant 2 months ago, and right now I have at least 25 automations and 80 + smart home devices being completely controlled by that program running on an Odroid C4.The Shelly integration in Home Assistant allows much easier manual control of LED colors and brightness, as well as creating scenes, schedules, timers, and anything and everything else you could do through the app. I use the direct web server method to check for firmware or make any changes to the operation of the device, but all of the day-to-day control stuff uses HA.I just added Govee strip lights to the top of three floating shelves in my bedroom, with the wiring running down inside the wall to the Shelly LED controller mounted inside of a junction box. It works perfectly and looks amazing.

Great Little RGB Controllers
I am using several of these throughout my home to remotely control various LED light strips. They are easy to set up, and are extremely cost effective. My only gripe is with the app. It works, but has a few quirks and bugs that you may come across. The UI/UX for selecting colors needs some improvement. While this didn’t impact the function of the controllers, these devices would be even better with a more polished app to support it.

Finally a device to control LED strip in Home Assistant easily without any code or addons! No need to use MQTT but if you run your domotic under another server.. it may be usefull! Also no need to connect to the cloud service. The app is a Little buggy (try to update the firmware and.. stuck on a Loop) but, only needed to connect the Shelly to my router so.. not a big deal! The package was intact and delivery really fast! Cant Wait to Buy an other one!.. or 2 or … Manu more hahaThanks to the tram Who develop this amazing Little thing!
