Worked great
Needed to get a deeper outlet box to fit the wire nuts behind the outlet. This is true of the outlet and any X10 wall switches. Just make installation so much easier.

Works well, as expected
This was a replacement for an identical unit. The defective one lasted about two years. Question: is this short life time normal?

Good Product
Have used X10 units before. This worked right out of the box. The only issue was the wire. It has the traditional 3 wires (hot, return, ground) and you need the wire screwcap to connect to the house wiring. The house wire is always that thick single wire copper, and the wiring from this outlet is the multistrand copper. Hence, it is difficult to connect and fit inside the outlet box. I recommend the product, and hope that they soon modify the outlet with the usual “plug the copper wire directly into the outlet”, like the standard ones you buy nowadays.Other than that, works perfectly. Always had success with X10.

Good Product – odd accessories
X.10 may be the “vinyl record” of home automation, but coupled with an X.10 wifi hub, it’s still usable technology. I ordered a couple of these – one to replace a failure and another for an additional location. They worked fine out of the box, and were quieter than the originals they replaced. Dropped one star for the oddest thing — the GFCI plate they come with is white, like the product. Would you believe the screws included were ALMOND? Had a couple of spares on hand, so it finished out as you would expect. Get it together, folks.

Inferior Product
I use this product in my home alarm system to activate/deactivate the garage doors. If the alarm is active the garage doors cannot be opened until the alarm is deactivated. Unfortunately this product is totally inferior. Sometimes when I come home not knowing if my wife is out and set the alarm it goes off and than the alarm company is calling. What an inconvenience. I may get 6 months of use of the SR227 before failure. I do not recommend this product if you can avoid it. I have no other alternative.!

It works. Great solution
I have used X10 forever. Less so now, but still for remote outdoor yard and light control they are still the best I have used – though I have not tried the very newest stuff the last couple of year. This device is in a exposed box – with cover but really open in a sprinklered area. I have two like this. They fail about once every 6-7 years, so I buy two at a time. Its reliable in between unlike bluetooth at 50 feet through a wall. LOL.

Gets 2 stars knocked off for having tinned-copper stranded pigtails instead of screws like a normal outlet
Decent switch. Works as advertised. Gets 2 stars knocked off for having tinned-copper stranded pigtails instead of screws like a normal outlet. This requires wire nuts to install, which are hard to properly secure with the solid copper of your house wiring. And once you get them secured, there are potential clearance issues, especially in a shallow box, because you now have 3 large wire nuts that weren’t there before.

WORKS FINE FOR ME OVER 15-20 YEARS!
Have used this item for the past 15-20 years in five of my Arizona exterior applications Had my first failure recently and replaced with another–working fine! The X-10 isn’t contemporary in tech, but a very economical application by comparison.
