Kids who love video games will love this exciting new series that brings video games to life in the real world! Perfect for ages 8-12.
12-year-old Milo Garrett may not be the biggest, strongest, or most popular kid in school, but in the gaming world, he’s an absolute legend.
After using his elite skills to acquire an ultra-rare magical ring in his favorite video game, Milo wakes up to find a real ring on his finger—and it gives him extraordinary abilities from the game in real life!
Now, Milo can see “stats” floating over people’s heads, use magical spells and weapons, and even level up. But Milo learns his new powers come with a catch—evil creatures from the game are spawning into the real world, and he’s the only one who can stop them!
To succeed, Milo will have to defeat powerful enemies, acquire amazing new items, and boost his wavering confidence. But as he’s about to discover, being a hero in the real world is a lot harder than being one in a video game. Especially since he has limited Health Points—and when they run out there are no extra lives!

Discovering a Hidden Treasure: “Boy with Video Game Powers”
I must admit, stories centered around video games usually aren’t my cup of tea, but “Boy with Video Game Powers” caught me off guard in the best way possible. This delightful read, seemingly perfect for both the young and those young at heart, particularly those aged 8 to 14, skillfully connects both gamers and non-gamers with its engaging story that’s simply irresistible.Right from the start, the concept of a boy with the ability to wield video game powers sets the stage for an exhilarating journey, and the author R. L. Ullman doesn’t disappoint. The story is packed with action, obstacles, and the classic battle between good and evil, all through the exciting perspective of video game rules and dynamics. What makes this story stand out is its clever integration of themes like friendship, determination, and the importance of strategic thinking, making it more than just an adventure story but a narrative with depth and meaningful lessons.Milo’s (the protagonist’s) quest is deeply relatable on many levels. His journey of uncovering and mastering his powers mirrors the journey of personal growth and finding oneself, themes that resonate with readers universally. The author has done an excellent job in making the story accessible and captivating, ensuring that even those with little to no interest in video games can find joy and connection within its pages.A highlight of the book is its well-measured pace. The story progresses quickly, filled with enough twists and turns to keep you hooked, yet it’s paced in a way that doesn’t feel overwhelming. Each chapter builds on the previous one, leading to a gratifying ending that neatly wraps up the story while still leaving room for more adventures. Achieving this balance showcases the author’s adeptness at crafting stories. The characters, especially Milo, are engaging and easy to root for. Their development is clear throughout the story, and their interactions add both humor and depth. The dialogue is sharp and true to the characters’ ages, pulling the reader even deeper into the world the author has crafted.”Boy with Video Game Powers” proves that a story can go beyond the expected audience of its genre. It’s not merely a book for kids or just for boys; it’s a book for anyone who loves a great tale of adventure, personal growth, and the magic of friendship. Whether you’re a hardcore gamer or someone who’s never touched a video game, this book is likely to captivate you, surprise you, and make you look forward to any future installments.

Amazingly fun!
This book was pure magic, and amazingly fun to read! I’m an adult, but I love reading books by this author because they are always so imaginative and engaging. The story begins with Milo, who is starting his first day at a new school, and feeling very much like he doesn’t fit in. There’s only one things that Milo excels at, and that’s playing his favor video game, Ranger Quest. As one of the top players, Milo is qualified to compete for the ultimate rare artifact, a mysterious ring. However, when he manages to obtain it, Milo learns there is more to the ring than he expected, as he suddenly finds he has powers in real life similar to those he can wield in the video game!Milo meets a mysterious character who informs him that as the game champion, he has been selected to save his world from evil. There’s a steep learning curve, as Milo learns that gaming in real life is much harder than computer gaming. He has to fight evil characters while keeping normal people safe. In addition, Milo still has to attend school and deal with the school bully.I got sucked into the story immediately, and I think kids will really get a kick out of reading how Milo has to balance his everyday life with his gaming superhero life. He doesn’t always make the smartest choices, but that’s part of being a kid. This book is absolutely fun to read, and I’m really looking forward to the next one!I received an ARC copy of this book, but the opinions expressed are solely my own.

Very excited for book two!
(Review by 12 year old gamer) I think the book was great. Easy 4 stars. I do feel as though it could have been a bit longer than it was, it felt too short to be âcompleteâ. But I know that book two is coming out soon. Other than that I feel it was a success. The way all these video gamemonsters come into play through a competition in-game, that only the top players at that timecould compete in. I think the fact all the kidâs powers are very similar to other RPGs and adventuregames, such as Minecraft or Final Fantasy, is very cool. Very excited for book two! I received a free review copy and this is my honest review.

the Boy that Said it was Awesome
My 10 year old son says:”After reading the whole Epic Zero series by R.L. Ullman, I was very interested to read this ARC.The boy in the story has just moved to a new town and is not excited to go to his new school. The only thing Milo really excels at is playing video games and he is one of the top players in a game called Ranger Quest. Since he is one of the top players of this game in the world, he is allowed to try and find a new rare item in Ranger Quest. But when he does find it, the game crashes. When he wakes up the next morning, he possesses that found object and must save the world from a video game universe using the powers of the ring. He runs into some trouble along the way while also discovering he can die (just like in a video game). Will he succeed on his mission or will it be game over for Milo?People who like Epic Zero will like this series because it is interesting and kept me on my toes. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.”I received a free copy and this is my honest review.

Review from my 12yo son
This book was very good and the other books from the Epic zero series are also great. Milo is a sort of outcast at his school but he meets, Leon, another gaming geek like him. Milo participates in a contest for a exclusive item but it turns out to be a lot more than he bargained for, and now monsters are appearing and three demons are attempting to steal three items to summon their master to Miloâs world. I like this because he is in a tough spot dealing with thieving demons and destructive monsters and then all of a sudden, boom, he is on the FBI wanted list and the plot twist at the end is just beautiful. Five stars for a book.âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸I received a free review copy and this is my honest review.
