Great 2.5G switch for home lab
The first switch I received did not have management (was probably provisioned as an unmanaged switch). XikeStor support was very responsive, which was nice. I ended up returning the first switch and the replacement worked as expected, I could reach the management IP 192.168.10.12 without any issues. You can change the management IP (static) or DHCP is supported. The switch boots up very fast (less than 10 seconds), is very compact, fanless and uses very little power (12V DC). The Web UI is a bit basic but very usable. Some nice features are included: front-panel view, port tables with speed/duplex, flow control, VLAN untagged-tagged, QoS strict priority – weighted, STP/RSTP, IGMP snooping, LAG, port mirroring, port isolation, bandwidth control (not sure if it rate limits or shapes), Jumbo frames, MAC limit (qty of learned MACs), static MAC, EEE, storm control (broadcast / multicast) and overall port stats table (good/bad Tx/Rx packets). Config can also be backed up / restored to/from a local file. Given the relatively low price point and feature set, I feel this switch provides great value for a home lab or high end home network.

Easy to Install
This is a nice product that allowed me to run fiber from my basement to my entertainment center that houses my HTPC, streaming high-res audio and video. This also seems to have sped up the home network overall by increasing throughput between switches. My only complaint is that I can’t log into the switch to manage the settings. That being said – it seems to be working just fine without management. I’m getting 1.4GB/s at the switch at the far end of the fiber run from our 1GB internet service. For $50 plus the cost of the RJ45 transceivers and some fiber cable – it’s a great value.

Advanced Network – not 100% intuitive without some formal training
I found no real validity to negative reviews.Web access? Look on label on bottom of switch for IP, user & password. Not 10 Gbps? That is raw speed similar to unformatted versus formatted disks. Unfortunately real Ethernet has overhead including things like blank space between packets and variable packet collision down time (the biggest factor if more than 1 active port is transmitting) . Typical Ethernet throughput on moderately busy segment is 70-80% of raw speed — depending on how much background broadcasting interrupts actual data transfer attempts.I saw no promises that uplink/downlink ports would be compatible as general use Ethernet ports. Uplink and downlink ports on hubs and switches were originally designed only for daisy-chaining the main units of a given vendor together (otherwise known as stacking). These uplink/downlink “Ethernet” ports were often optimized for speed and thus proprietary or “streamlined” (missing normal Ethernet features). Recent device uplink ports are much more interoperative and standard between vendor devices, but I would not assume 100% general use Ethernet port and IP compatibility. Compatibility for use beyond switch to switch connectivity still tends to be specific to vendor NAS or other devices. In my mind, dual uplink ports are a bit more suggestive of intended use for daisy-chain switch application…unless a NAS vendor like Synology says their switch has 10G ports intended to attach to specific models of their NAS.

Incredible value
I must admit to being a bit suspicious when I initially ordered this switch, as it’s priced around the same if not less than similar unmanaged switches. So I was quite pleasantly surprised when I got it that it was just as advertised – a proper managed switch. Default interface is on 192.168.10.12, which is reconfigurable. All the basics are there, including link status and speeds, jumbo frame control, port mirroring, 802.1Q et al.Even more impressively, again unlike many other 2.5G switches out there, this one comes with a proper UL listed 12V/2A power brick. There are hanging holes in the back for wall mounting, as well as a grounding screw. Switch is passively cooled, so there’s no fan noise.I did not test the SFP port as I only need 2.5G switching myself, which works fine in initial testing.Highly recommended.

Good managed layer 2 switch, network info on the bottom, very small footprint
This switch works as a multi-gig device. I have 4 x 2.5 gig devices communicating without issues currently and the SFP+ port works when plugged into my main HP switch. One “gotcha” to be aware of is the fact that you have to save your configuration or a reboot/power cycle will reset you back to where you started. The default IP and username/password are printed on the plate on the bottom of the device I received so I didn’t have any issues there.Main reason I got this was the price and for its VLAN capabilities in my network which have been flawless now for about 3 weeks.I wasn’t able to order this on amazon.ca so I ordered it on amazon.com. Transaction was great with no issues in purchase or shipping which I really appreciate.Only complaint is the availability/difficulty in finding the firmware for this device (reason for 1 star deduction). Never did locate the firmware on their website, but was able to update the firmware that it came with (1.3) to new (1.9) thanks to ServeTheHome website. This switch is MUCH smaller than I expected. It has 1/3 the footprint of a standard sheet of paper and only about an inch thick. For a multi-gig switch, once I have this maxed out I am worried about heat and whether or not this will last. If there are any problems with longevity I will come back and update this review.
