Works on HP ProDesk 600 But Careful Where You Plug It In!
TL/DR: I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS ANTENNA, just be aware that plugging it into a USB port on your box might cause electrical interference resulting in a buggy system. This is easily resolved by plugging it into a USB hub that’s connected to your box but a little distance away.I drive an old HP ProDesk 600 G1 running an old version of Linux. This computer does not come equipped with wifi capability. My new apartment doesn’t have a coax cable outlet, only a wifi modem in the closet so my computer was unusable for the internet. This ALFA Network USB dongle is fast and works great! Once plugged into a USB port, the network tools that came with my distro found the network and acquired signal with no trouble at all. All I had to do was select my network and type in a few particulars about my modem. But there’s one problem with USB wifi dongles that you might or might not experience. Plugging a wifi antenna into a USB port on your box can cause electrical interference that makes things get weirdly buggy. What do I mean by “buggy”? After a while my wifi signal began dropping out and my network tool struggled to find signal again. Then my mouse and keyboard simultaneously became non-responsive and I had to do a hard shutdown. I decided to reinstall my O/S. While I had my box shut down I moved the ALFA dongle from the front to the back of the box so my cats wouldn’t rub against it.After the reinstall my network was stable but my keyboard and mouse began going dead more and more often, requiring hard shutdowns every time.I read on a forum that these problems can be caused by a USB wifi antenna dongle causing electrical interference with USB devices.*CLICK*I unplugged the ALFA Network dongle from the USB port on my machine on the floor and plugged it into a multiport USB hub on my desk that’s connected to my computer via USB cable. Removing the ALFA from a direct connection to my box completely solved the problem.I hope that someone finds this helpful.

works Great with Linux Mint
I installed this on a refurbished HP mini-PC for use as a TV streaming box. It was instantly recognized by Linux Mint and works perfectly. Very pleased.

It works
Shipping took a bit of time and it was stuck in customs for about 3 days. However, it was everything that I had expected. Definitely plug and play without having to download any drivers. No issue with Monitor & PI modes on Kali in VM.

Plug and Play with Linux.
Plug and Play with Linux. This adapter is based on the MT7612u chipset which is supported in-kernel. The driver is very good. Tested in Managed mode (client), Master mode (AP) and Monitor mode. Tested on Linux Mint 20.1, Ubuntu 20.04 and 20.10, Manjaro and Raspberry Pi OS. Regarding the post from the reviewer that said this adapter was not working with Ubuntu during January 2021: The reviewer is correct. The makers of Ubuntu messed something up and the driver was not working for a short time. This problem was distro specific and has been fixed. Measured power usage under heavy use is 380 mA which is very low compared to other AC1200 adapters. This low power usage makes this adapter an excellent choice for Raspberry Pi 4. Highly recommended for Linux users.

Better experience compared to the AWUS036AC, not the greatest sensitivity in 2.4Ghz
I tried this model after fussing with the unstable Linux drivers for the AWUS036AC Model. The AWUS036ACM worked out of box, supported the same features as the AWUS036AC, and preformed quite similarly when compared side by side in monitor mode. If you are reading this and it is around Jan 2020, do yourself a favor and get this over the other model. For both of these units I have noticed that their 2.4Ghz reception is not that great compared to other adapters such as Panda’s offerings. 5Ghz reception seems ok and their transmit capabilities on both bands are ok too. I dropped a star because of this.

Works well on Fedora 38 Linux with 6.4 kernel
This seems to work well on my Intel NUC computer running Fedora 38 Linux. It uses a driver called mt76x2u which, as far as I can tell, is compiled into the standard 6.4 kernel I am using. I have not had much luck with a couple of other wifi devices I tried, but this one seems to work without any problems. The idea that the driver comes with Linux by default seems to be confirmed by the fact that I have a different Fedora installation on a different computer which has never had this Wifi device attached, and that computer has a folder called /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/mediatek/mt76Here is what I see from “dmesg” when I connect this device:usb 2-3: new SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcdusb 2-3: New USB device found, idVendor=0e8d, idProduct=7612, bcdDevice= 1.00usb 2-3: New USB device strings: Mfr=2, Product=3, SerialNumber=4usb 2-3: Product: Wirelessusb 2-3: Manufacturer: MediaTek Inc.usb 2-3: SerialNumber: 000000000usb 2-3: reset SuperSpeed USB device number 3 using xhci_hcdmt76x2u 2-3:1.0: ASIC revision: 76120044mt76x2u 2-3:1.0: ROM patch build: 20141115060606amt76x2u 2-3:1.0: Firmware Version: 0.0.00mt76x2u 2-3:1.0: Build: 1mt76x2u 2-3:1.0: Build Time: 201507311614____ieee80211 phy1: Selected rate control algorithm ‘minstrel_ht’usbcore: registered new interface driver mt76x2u

Bought this to work with a router running openwrt, I was so surprised this worked!!!! You need to download the additional drivers and firmware from the software section. I’m running the latest version of openwrt at the time of this writing (v. 23.05.3)

i driver per il chipset MT7612U sono inclusi nel kernel da anni, e quindi questa scheda di rete è plug and play su tutte le distribuzioni linux recenti. non necessita compilazione driver.

I bought this adapter because my previous USB WiFi dongle had a chipset not 100% compatible with my OS. This one, however, works out of the box with support for both 2.4 and 5 GHz networks at full speed.
