Customers say
Customers like the quality, charging speed and ease of setup of the network interface controller adapter. They say it’s well built, easy to use and that there are no drivers to install. Customers like that it has a USB C port and that it charges at high speed. They also appreciate the plug-and-play functionality. However, some customers have reported issues with the Ethernet port not locking the cable in place. Opinions are mixed on performance.

Works great, Runs warm
I tested this adapter on a 2-year old Lenovo laptop with a Thunderbolt 3 interface, both on Windows and Ubuntu. It worked flawlessly. On Ubuntu, using the iperf3 benchmarking program I was able to run 2.35 Gbps in both directions at once. That’s as fast as 2.5 GE will go with 1500 byte packets. On Windows I was able to send at 2.0 Gbps and receive at 2.35 Gbps. Bidirectionally, Windows slowed to ~3 Gbps total. iperf3 on Windows uses the Cygwin linux library, and that may have aliased the results. In any case, I am not complaining. While doing this, I was also powering the laptop and charging the battery with a 60W power supply. The adapter was running 19.5V at 2.15A. That also worked perfectly, but the adapter case warmed to 30° F above ambient. Warm to the touch, but not concerning. This performance is much better than I have seen with two other 2.5 GE adapters. Those adapters did not also power the laptop. Cable Matters has never let me down. Great job, guys.

Excellent adaptor.
I use this as a backup for my Internet connection. It’s easy to setup and there are no drivers to install on my phone. I can use this with my phone and enable Ethernet hotspot. Then I can plug it into my wan port on the router. It does use alot of battery power but I just put the phone on a wireless charger. I’m able to get 240 meg up and 100 down with 2 bars of 5G UW service.

Great adapter, funky with Macbooks
With my MacBook Pro, it does a great job with high speed charging and 2.5 gig Ethernet. However, when the laptopâs battery gets full, it keeps stopping and starting charging, causing my Mac to keep beeping every time charging resumes and so once my Mac is charged, I move the power cable into a second USB C port.

Working as expected
I’m using this one to have my iphone 15 pro connected over ethernet when on my desktop (I don’t like WiFi) and it provides good connection and fast charges the phone as well.I even used an usb-c extension cable so I can hide it and only the cable is visible.I tested the connection, but I have no way of knowing if this is the max speed of the adapter or there is a bottleneck between the PC with the file, any of the 3 switches the connection moves through or the phone itself.I know is a bit overkill but, as iOS doesn’t mention when it is using ethernet, I created a shortcut that turns off WiFi and mobile data when the phone is charging, so I’m certain the phone is using ethernet.

Does not work with Chromecast with Google TV
I purchased this for the sole purpose of wiring my Chromecast with Google TV 4K to my network (you know, wire is always preferable to WiFi), and the CGTV does not recognize it at all. I bought a PD from Amazon that delivers 30W, a cable that supports up to 100W, and the CGTV works fine, just does not see the network adapter.I’m guessing it’s the GTV kernel that does not support this yet, since I tried with another adapter I have, and it did recognize the LAN port, but could not get audio out the TV because it gets automatically routed to the HDMI port of the adapter (which is why I purchased this one without HDMI).In any case, I’m keeping it because my laptops and my PC were able to recognize it right away, so I may find a use for it down the road in my home lab.Bottom line, it works, just not for CGTV.

Great performance and plug-and-play for Mac users
This is a fantastic product for any Mac user who wants just Ethernet and charging through a single port.Maybe youâre thinking: why not get a fully featured hub with HDMI, multiple USB-A ports, SD card slots, and Ethernet? Or why not get a regular USB-C Ethernet adapter without a PD charging port? Those are perfectly fine alternatives, to be honest. Itâs just that I wanted this particular combination. So, with that in mind, let me just mention a few things about why I like this particular adapter from Cable Matters vs. all the other Ethernet + charging adapters youâll find on Amazon.First of all, itâs a 2.5 GbE adapter. I would say that this is an advantage even if you only connect to 1 GbE networks because of an annoying issue with macOS. Iâll spare you the annoying technical details from countless comments on Reddit, but the short answer is that some 1 GbE adapters use an inefficient driver on Macs which can result in degraded performance and higher energy usage. The adapter itself is nicely built with a reinforced cable, aluminum body, etc. To me, it feels more expensive than it is. Perhaps the only complaint I have is that the gray is a touch darker than my âspace grayâ MacBook, but Iâm not picky about these things.I also checked its Ethernet performance on a proper 2.5 GbE network using iperf3. As shown in the screenshot, itâs solid. I mention this because another reviewer seemed to be having issues with speeds, so I wanted to double-check on my own home network.

With Mac power adapter attached, ethernet stops working.
This adapter is great for 2.5g transfers, but when attaching power to the adapter also, the ethernet stops working.

Excellent Quality. Good for traveling.
Easy to use. Small enough to use for travel or to eliminate bulk in office setting when it is plugged in. I use it as an adapter for cable connect to my network since WiFi can get slow on the computer or other devices. Used the Ethernet port and the USB-C port. Both are excellent. Especially convenient and helpful is the 5″-6″ flexible cable. It provides some give from point of port on device to the main housing, then to the extended cable you plug in. I highly recommend this product. It is a keeper.

EDIT: I updated to the newest Realtek drivers and did achieve te full speed 2.5gb. Iâve updated the review to 5 stars. This one of the few USB C 2.5gb ethernet adapters that also includes PD power without adding all the other ports. It’s great in this way. For the ethernet performance, it’s just over 2gb, but not quite the 2.3gb max that you typically get with other 2.5gbe adapters.
