It really works!
I was skeptical that a USB-C ethernet adapter would achieve fast enough speeds. I recently got 2 GB fiber Internet and my computer only had a 1 GB ethernet port so I bought this to see if I could get faster speeds and sure enough it worked! Simply plug and play. It uses a RealTek chip inside the dongle.

Does deliver true gigabit performance, rare to find in a USB adapter
I would definately recommend this to someone looking to increase their wired ethernet speeds. I must admit I did not test this up to 2.5Gbps but I can verify that it does deliver true 1Gbps throughput which is rare for this type of adapter as all the other 1Gbps adapters I have ever tried (many well-known name brands) and none of them performed much over 100Mbps.

Required driver download to get full speed
I have 3 different brands of USB 2.5GB ethernet adapters and this was the most difficult to install. The adapter shows up as 2500/2500 Mbps in my windows 2011 settings, but I was only getting around 1.23-1.25 Gb when I ran iper3 tests to 3 other computers, so I know this device was the limiting factor. It turns out that I needed to install a new driver. That was also a bit of a pain because Amazon says this adapter is model 201095 but the Cable Matters support page only listed a 201090. At least that still worked, and it refers you to the drivers on the Realtek website, which is the actual chip in this device. So to sum it up, this adapter works fine, but you may need to install new drivers. I am getting about 2.37 Gbps which is basically as fast as it can get, so now I’m happy. And as a tip, the official driver on Realtek is called Realtek USB FE / GBE / 2.5G / 5G Ethernet Family Controller Software

Does not perform anywhere near spec
I have a wired network with a 2.5gb back bone. I purchased this adaptr to connect and improve speed over a 1Gb USB to ethernet adaptor. This product could never mnaage anything over 500mb/sec. I tried on two different computers, a mac and windows system. I connected a 1 Gb/sec USB to Ethernet adapter and it almost doubled the performance of the cable matters product. Not sure if this was defective or not, but two different operating sysem eliminated any possibility for driver issues. if you are looking for advertised speed capabilities look elsewherre.

Straightforward 2.5Gb adapter. Works great, but I prefer the foldable version.
2.5 gigabit Ethernet is starting to become more and more prevalent lately – as home cable modems start to exceed 1 gigabit, it’s becoming an important standard to support. Most laptops and desktops still have slower connections, though, so dongles like this will become more and more important as the new technology rolls out. This dongle works great, and I have no complaints about the functionality. My only whine is that Cable Matters has raised my expectations with their cool compact foldable dongles: they have a whole line of nifty devices where the cable slots into the package, and I’ve come to expect that from the company. This one’s a more traditional cable with a rigid 6″ pigtail, which makes it harder to pack for travel and bulkier to use.Other than the pedestrian physical design, this dongle seems to work well and I was able to connect to both legacy and 2.5G devices without issues. Keep in mind this is a relatively new Realtek chipset, so if you’re looking for a dongle to use with some weird non-computer device like a phone, tablet, streaming dongle or embedded computer, this probably isn’t your best choice – you should stick to an older dongle that’s more likely to have built in driver support. But on a Windows or MacOS based computer, this should work like a charm.

Nice Adapter – Not Much Support For 2.5GB Yet
I have a number of Cable Matters products and they have all been great and this adapter is no exception.I got this because my Gigabyte Aero laptop doesn’t have an in-built network port. You have to plug into the USB-C ports although to be fair it did come with a small hub to facilitate this, but this dongle is a bit more convenient and compact. Our house network is all Gigabit speed with the exception of a 2.5GBit port on my router (Asus RT-AX86U) which I expected to be able to test the speed of this adapter with. Alas despite copying large files to and from a thumb drive plugged into the router I was unable to obtain any fast speeds, but feel sure this was due to limitations of the way I was testing. When plugged into a gigabit port I was seeing consistent 690MBit speeds which is what I would expect from a gigabit port.Hardware is nice, cable is high quality with very good strain reliefs. The socket has link and activity lights and a blue LED to indicate the dongle is connected to the USB-C port and is powered. All in all a nice adapter but one that is more a case of future proofing than of actual use as a 2.5 GBit port.

This item will NOT WORK WITH M2 apple silicon devices. Nothing detected. UPDATE
Also, strangely for a USB C device, I need to plug it in one direction to work with M1 mac. If I flip it over noting is detected either.Seller reached out and my device may be defective. Very good customer service. I will update again once I know if it does work with M2.

Funktioniert also wie angepriesen.
