Easy to read guide
This book could be a guidebook for anyone possibly looking at an ASD diagnosis. The author gives the basics in simple terms, explaining he understands itâs difficult as he has lived it. Anyone waiting on a diagnosis or who has just gotten a new dx can see that itâs not all doom and gloom, and there is hope for ASD kiddos. This book gives a basic outline of the steps a parent goes through from suspicion, testing and diagnosis without being very technical and overwhelming. Itâs a great introduction to the new world of autism for many families yet still offers positive outcomes and experiences to give people hope. Itâs a great subtle explanation without smacking you in the face. I think anybody even looking at the possibility of an ASD dx would find this quite helpful. I wish Iâd had this when my family was discovering what their new world would be.

The book everyone needs
I really loved this book. As a parent of a autistic child and school nurse that works with autistic students this book is a valuable resource. I especially loved the stories of autistic people. It shows the many spectrums of Autism in each story. This book can especially be helpful for new parents because it talks about the early signs of Autism, developmental delays and the process of a diagnosis. This book covers it all, everything you need to know about Autism and how to support and guide your child. I highly recommend this book to anyone that has a autistic family member or anyone that works with autistic students.

A well-written guide that would benefit from more behavior management strategies.
“Parenting Autistic Children” by Michael Stevens is a helpful and informative guide for parents navigating the world of autism. The book is easy to read and understand, making it accessible to a wide audience. I appreciated the real-life examples, which made the concepts relatable and easier to grasp. The book provides practical tips that parents can use daily. Its supportive and empathetic tone makes it feel like a trusted friend offering guidance. It covers the basics of autism without overwhelming the reader with technical details, which is perfect for new parents. However, the book could benefit from glossaries for unfamiliar terms related to autism. It also needs more concrete examples of behavior management strategies in different settings. These additions would make the book even more useful.Despite these minor drawbacks, “Parenting Autistic Children” is a valuable resource. It offers a sense of community and hope, making parents feel less alone in their journey. This book is a great starting point for anyone looking to understand and support their autistic child better.

As a mother of two neurodiverse children, I like to see other peopleâs perspectives. See what works for them, may work for us as well. This book is well written and very informative.

Easy to read and understandable for anyone
This is a must have for parents of younger kids with ASD, although I do recommend it for anyone. This book is an eye opener because you are able to read briefly on peopleâs first hand stories. Itâs nothing too crazy in depth so as parents of kids on the spectrum we donât have too much free time to catch up on the latest books or shows and this is perfect for in between therapy appointments and get a few pages in during lunch/dinner. Gives great advice on basic parent must have knowledge like IEPs which Iâm sure we can agree are scary especially in the beginning. Highly recommend!

As a parent with no idea of ASD, I genuinely appreciate how Parenting Autistic Children by Michael Stevens offers real-life examples that make the concepts relatable and easy to understand. The book covers parenting techniques with an empathetic and supportive tone, making it feel like a trusted guide. The practical tips and clear, concise writing style make complex topics accessible. However, the book could be even more effective with glossaries for unfamiliar words related to ASD and more concrete examples of behavior management strategies in different settings. I’m looking for a book like this to help a friend who is having a difficult time and has a child diagnosed with autism. This could be a great gift for her as she navigates the challenges of raising her child.
