Great TV
I purchased this TCL 55″ QLED TV to upgrade to 4K viewing. I added a Polk soundbar. The QLED screen is gorgeous. The setup instructions are good except the TV comes configured for Google TV. I could not figure out how to access my Verizon channels. EJ from TCL Product Support walked me through this and could not have been nicer. He also helped me access the soundbar. It is refreshing to have such competent and pleasant product support without waiting online forever. I strongly recommend the QLED. The quality, coupled with the price, are terrific.

Quality Smart TV
I’m thrilled with my recent purchase of a TCL TV from Amazon, just in time to catch the Paris Olympic Games! The picture quality is stunning, with vibrant colors and crystal-clear clarity that makes me feel like I’m right in the stadium. I love the various functions of the TV, from built-in streaming apps to voice control and seamless connectivity with my other devices. Plus, the affordable price point made it an unbeatable value. Whether I’m cheering on my favorite athletes or binge-watching my favorite shows, my TCL TV delivers an exceptional viewing experience that exceeds my expectations. It’s the perfect addition to my home entertainment setup!

Great Picture
I wanted experience the TV for a couple weeks before writing this. I think it’s important to know what this TV is being compared to. I was replacing a five-year-old 50″ Sceptre 4K UHD non-smart TV with a Roku adapter, YouTube TV and a few streaming services. I always thought the Sceptre had a really nice picture, and I still do, as it was just moved into the bedroom. The set up for this TV was very easy, especially if you have a Google account. I just scanned the QR code that came on the screen and it had me download the Google Home app. After that, the app did all the work and I was set to go. My initial impression was that the picture was nice. Probably a little better than what I had previously. This was while I was tuned into CNN. I played with the adjustments and got the picture to where it I liked it. Then I saw the different picture options like Sports, Movie, Smart HDR and Low Power. The default setting is Low Power which works well for typical everyday viewing. Where I was blown away was when I watched some of the streaming shows and sports. When you apply the Smart HDR to a streaming show and the Sports mode to a football game, Wow!! It’s far and above what I was experiencing when I thought I had a really nice picture with my old set.I was lucky to unknowingly get this on sale for $320. during I guess a Labor Day sale. Believe me, it’s worth much more than that. I did some research before purchasing it and came across two very good reviews for it on tech websites and I couldn’t agree more.If I have one criticism it’s that the Google TV lags somewhat, especially when you first turn on the TV. You hit the button and sometimes it lags for a second or two before moving. Again, I’ve been used to a Roku adapter that was always very quick and responsive.Overall, this has been a great purchase. Thanks to TCL for putting out a product at this level for this cost.

Update: Can only use WiFi SSID on either 2.4ghz or 5ghz, not on both
Updated:It turns out that this TV has old, inadequate WiFi support that does not work well with modern WiFi systems that present the same SSID on both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands at the same time (thus letting the client chose which band to lock on to.)To get reliable WiFi with this TV I had to change our WiFi settings to create a new “IoT” SSID on either the 2.4 or 5ghz bands (but *not* both) and then update the TV settings to use that new SSID. (I put mine on the 5ghz band.)Fortunately my Netgear Orbi system was able to create that new, additional SSID and lock it to exactly one of the frequency bands (2.4 or 5ghz). Before getting this TV one should check that their WiFi hardware is able to do this. When doing this you probably will need to restart the TV multiple times.Neither Amazon nor TCL support was much help figuring this out.Original:We will probably return this – WiFi is unreliable (only way to use is via a Roku plugged in to HDMI)We just got this new TV, TCL 65-Inch Q65 QLED 4K UHD Smart TV with Google TV (65Q651G, 2024 Model) and set it up yesterday. Some points:First:This unit does not reliably connect to WiFi. It can see our networks, it can connect (sometimes) after a power reset, but often not. It looses the connection until the unit is power cycled and a fresh attempt made. Our prior TV had no problem. The Roku that we have to use in order to use this TV connects to WiFi with total reliability. We have excellent WiFi here (NetGear Orbi system) and no other device of any kind has any difficulty with our WiFi.We are networking technologists, we are unlikely to have made any errors in the setup of the SSID or the access pass phrase – it is just that sometimes the WiFi works on this TV (for a while) and often it does not work. All other WiFi devices, including the Roku sitting right next to it, work fine while this TV struggles and fails. This turns this unit, from our point of view into nothing but a dumb screen that we can use only via a Roku (that has no trouble with WiFi) plugged into one of the HDMI ports. We did a software upgrade so we are running the latest release.Basically this is unacceptable and if we can not resolve this we will simply have to return this TV for a refundSecond: The off-angle viewing range is rather limited. Off center viewing that was OK with our prior (Samsung) is blury with this unit.Third: Google TV seems to be a repacking of YouTube with apps. It can be rather difficult to find content that is not part of the Google ecosystem. We actually prefer to use this unit via our tried and true Roku (which has no WiFi problems) via an HDMI connection. Google TV seems designed by and for children.Fourth: Some of the controls are hard to find – like turning off Soap Opera mode can take a bit of digging. (In its default mode, old B&W movies looked awful.)

Price-quality balance is well set
Yes, there are TV units with 8K, that can also do a whole bunch of other things, yet in most cases also come with a higher price tag.I am happy with this TV. It has a nice picture, all the Android apps are available, works best with iPhone, has built-in capabilities with major streaming services, and happily serves as the family PlayStation display for gaming sessions. What else should a TV unit do nowadays?
