Customers say
Customers like the performance, ease of installation, and range of the wireless signal repeater. For example, they mention it works well, it’s easy to install, and the signal is pretty strong. That said, some complain about the compatibility and cost. They say it only connects to your primary WiFi network and is a waste of time and energy.

Good range and signal strength
Because FIOS TV boxes are now WiFi dependent, our signal across the house and up a floor was terrible and TV would lag. Had an old extender that barely helped. Tried another cheap one which didn’t work. But this guy makes a big difference. No more lag, great extender

Allowed me to bridge a 1 gigabit ethernet LAN to my WiFi gateway that only has a 100 Mbps port
T-Mobile’s Home Internet gateways have ethernet ports on them and their spec sheets SAY they’re 1 gigabit ports, but they’re not. They’re only 100 Mbps. I know because my 1 gb LAN would max out at 92 meg DL transfer rate while the WiFI has been as high as 850 megs. I was looking for something with a 1GB port that would actually give me 1GB DL and UL rates over the WiFi link. This RE550 AC1900 device does that quite well. The only problem I had was configuring it as an Access Point instead of an Extender. It works as an Extender, but the problem with that is you can’t get into the device’s internal dashboard that way — it acts as a bridge to the router it’s extending and the RE550 is invisible. Configuring it as an Access Point should allow you to connect to it directly, but I couldn’t get it to work as an AP at all for some reason. One nit I have is that it’s designed to plug into a wall socket. Most wall sockets are about 18 inches above the floor, and mine are filled with plugs to multi-outlets. Plugging this into a multi-outlet is not a good option. I’d much prefer that the wall plug wasn’t there and the back was flat so I can just mount it on the wall at shoulder-height with a power plug coming out the bottom. With the plug sticking out the back, it’s impossible to do anything other than plug it into a socket somehow. If it’s not a wall socket, then it’s just this big awkward chunk of plastic with three ears that doesn’t sit upright or lie down flat on any surface.

Excellent works well with TP-Link Router
Excellent works well with TP-Link Router and TP-Link router phone app. Use the TETHER phone app to manage both devices

POC – Came with no updated software update
POC – Came with no updated software update. Tech support was of no use. Could not update the software even when using the instructions provided. I’m not a software-minded person. would never connect to my internet.

Very good connectivity and speed
Easy to setup with the company application and used with an Ethernet connection too! Very capable and worth the money!

Mesh worked OK, but it will NOT work with guest wifi networks.
This refurb unit was in decent condition, but somehow had a lot of scratches on it. It took me a few times to get it added via WPS, but eventually it worked and synced up with my TP-Link router. The mesh parts seemed to work OK, but the primary reason I bought this was to increase all of the IoT devices on my guest network. This mesh unit will only connect to your primary wifi SSID, and won’t work at all with your guest network. If this doesn’t matter to you, I think I’d recommend this unit. If you need something for your guest network, you can use this mesh unit (or some other router) in Access Point mode, but I already had another router doing that, and was hoping to add “mesh” units. In the end, I returned it as it didn’t meet my needs.

Super easy setup
Love the ease of use and setup plus a direct http interface on top of the tp-link tether app that made setup take less than 10 minutes
